A standout for lagers, blending New Zealand character with Hallertau Mittelfrüh parentage.

SKU :WAK

Breeding/Development: New Zealand. Released by HortResearch in 1998, the Wakatu variety is named for the Maori word for Nelson. Its heritage is from ⅔ Hallertau Mittelfrüh and ⅓ New Zealand male. Formerly known as Hallertau Aroma.

Brewing Application: Aroma. With a pronounced earthy-sweet floral Hallertau character underscored by tropical fruit notes typical of New Zealand varieties, Wakatu is a standout for any lager style, wheat, or pale hybrid beers. It makes a good supporting hop in blends for hoppy American ales.

Sensory: Moderately intense. Fresh lime zest and citrus oils with a definite  Mittelfrüh-style sweetness: clover, hay, honey, and blossoms.
